Initially, community apprehension surrounded the data centers due to a lack of information, but this sentiment has shifted as residents have become more informed about the benefits. Before the investment, average wages in Richland Parish ranged from $36,000 to $38,000 per year. Powell McCormick emphasized the necessity of ongoing communication to ensure that all community members understand the advantages of data centers.

Meta's partnership approach in negotiating the data center deal has set a high standard for such investments in Louisiana. While concerns about pollution and electricity costs are valid, the industry has struggled to effectively communicate its positive impacts. Meta has also made investments in energy generation and grid upgrades in Louisiana, with laws ensuring that surplus tax revenue directly benefits teachers.

The economic development stemming from data centers extends to small businesses and educators, with Powell McCormick noting that there are 500,000 open jobs expected in data center roles in the coming years. Meta guarantees job placements for graduates of their training program, which aims to bridge the gap between available jobs and qualified workers, with union support for data center job creation.

In discussing children's app usage, Powell McCormick highlighted an agreement with 52 bipartisan attorneys general to establish industry standards, including limiting children's access to Meta's platforms to two hours a day. If platforms like YouTube and TikTok join this initiative, children's usage could be further restricted to one hour a day. While there is a recognition of the need for cultural change within Meta, Powell McCormick disagrees with claims that the company has caused significant harm to children.
