AI Sovereignty Wars, Palantir-Nvidia Deal, SCOTUS Birthright Ruling, Newsom's CA Budget Lie

Palantir and Nvidia announced a sovereign AI partnership using Nvidia's Nemotron open source models to build a frontier-quality model for the U.S. government, with agencies owning the hardware, data, and model weights outright. Palantir is branding the resulting platform a sovereign AI operating system, and the deal reflects a broader argument that enterprise AI safety is fundamentally about controlling compute, models, and proprietary data so that frontier labs cannot absorb trade secrets.

Anthropic has launched Claude Design, Claude Science, Claude Security, Claude Legal, Claude Financial, and Claude Code, each entering a vertical previously served by companies building on top of Anthropic's own models. Claude Code was launched after Anthropic observed that Cursor, one of its largest customers, was performing extremely well, and then vertically integrated into that category. The Claude Design launch blindsided Figma, whose chief product officer had served on Figma's board and did not resign until three days before the launch. Figma's stock has fallen approximately 50 percent over the past year while Anthropic's valuation has surged. A Ramp and Revello Labs study of over 21,000 U.S. firms found that companies spending the most on AI grew headcount roughly 10 percent in the two years following adoption, with entry-level headcount growing 12 percent, while low or non-adopters saw flat headcount rather than losses. The study shows correlation but not causation. Klarna was cited as a counterexample to AI-driven job elimination, having reversed its decision to replace its customer support department with AI after roughly a year due to brand and customer relationship concerns.
